SHS Band Travels to Dixie Classic Grand NAI

Students from the Sheridan High School Band traveled to Chattanooga, Tennessee to participate in the Dixie Classic Grand National Adjudicators’ Invitational held April 27-28.  This is the most prestigious Concert Band and Orchestra Festival presented in America today, open only to those bands qualifying with superior ratings for 3 consecutive years.  Many states were represented at this event, including bands from New York, Georgia, Alabama, Florida, and Oklahoma.  The Sheridan High School band was the ONLY band from Arkansas who was eligible to participate.  They received an excellent rating on their performance.  Matthew Womble, junior at SHS, was presented with overall outstanding soloist for his performance on the flute.  Later, James Swearingen, a world-renowned performer, composer/arranger and educator, held a private clinic exclusively for the band.  They were also able to do many sightseeing activities, including going to Ruby Falls, the Tennessee Aquarium, Lookout Mountain’s Incline Railway, and staying at the historic Chattanooga Choo-Choo Hotel.  Sponsors traveling with the group were Becky Settlemoir, Ernest DeSoto, Jessica Stewart, Rachel Perkins, and Carolyn Tanner, along with band directors Ron McHone, Gregg Scott, Kelly Wolfe, and Dennis Wolfe.
